A scholar from Tarlac managed to graduate from electrical engineering using only P20 in daily allowance for food and fare.
Robin Lee Metiam, who completed the degree at the Tarlac State University, narrated his experience in his social media account and it went viral, reports ABS-CBN News.
According to Metiam, his father lost his job when he was a freshman so his daily allowance was reduced from P50 to P20. After spending P14 for fare, he used the remaining money to buy candy, samalamig (lemonade) or any cheap food that will soothe his hunger.
When he became a scholar in his junior year, he received a monthly allowance of P5,000. But he gave the money to his parents, according to his mother, and kept going to school with only P20 in his pocket.
His mother, Felin Metiam, explained that Robin already got used to spending only P20 at school, so the amount of his allowance did not change.
