The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has blacklisted a hospital in Micronesia for reported maltreatment and abuse of OFWs.
POEA officer-in-charge Aristodes Ruaro said the administration receive reports that Chuuk State Hospital tolerates maltreatment, contract violations, harassment, discrimination and abuse of OFWs.
The hospital has been recruiting Filipino health workers without approval of the POEA, Ruaro added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) warned aspiring Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) again to check the legitimacy of jobs being offered to halt cases of illegal recruitment.
“This is to prevent migrant workers from being victimized by illegal recruitment and human trafficking,” DOLE said in a statement.
DOLE said Filipinos should check the status of licensed recruitment agencies at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) before pursuing a job application.
“Jobseekers can fill-in the name of the agency and choose the category of recruitment agency whether land-based or manning agency,” DOLE advised.
Earlier, government agencies launched online databases that job seekers can use to check if a recruitment agency is blacklisted or not.
These databases are the National Illegal Recruitment Case Monitoring System, Online Trafficking-in-Persons Blacklist Database, and the Illegal Recruitment and TIP Priority Targets List.
