If you ever miss the strawberries of Baguio or La Trinidad, Benguet at times, here is a good news: Dubai residents will be able to enjoy freshly picked strawberries soon right inside the city.
According to a report by Gulf News, French startup Agricool’s farming initiative in Dubai has already started bearing fruits including strawberries.
The company has grown its first batch of about 4,500 strawberries that were grown inside a recycled shipping contained they called ‘cooltainer’. They plan to put the strawberries for sale by the end of the year.
The strawberry plants are planted vertically and watered by a drip system with LED lights that act as sunlight for photosynthesis. What’s better is that the strawberries grown in the cooltainers are free from pesticides.
Agricool said that the cooltainers are to maximize efficiency and overcome urban space constraints, as that of in Dubai.
While there are commercially available strawberries in the market, nothing beats freshly picked strawberries.
