Rovelyn Baterbonia, the mother of Ateneo basketball recruit Rene Baterbonia, said no apology can ease the pain of losing her son as she called for a clearer explanation of the circumstances surrounding his death.
In an interview, Rovelyn said she was told the incident that claimed her son’s life was an accident and that apologies had been extended to her.
However, she said she is still searching for answers.
“Hindi na mabubuhay ang anak ko sa sorry niyo,” Rovelyn said.
Instead of apologies, she said she wants a clear and complete explanation that would help her understand and accept that the incident was truly accidental.
“Bigyan niyo na lang ako ng clear explanation na matanggap ko na aksidente lang talaga,” she said.
Authorities have said their initial investigation indicates that the drowning incident involving Rene Baterbonia and fellow Ateneo player Divine Adili was an accident and that no evidence of foul play has been established so far.
The deaths occurred during a training camp in Aurora province, where both players were participating in activities ahead of the upcoming collegiate basketball season.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
