President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protect overseas Filipino workers and expand assistance programs for them and their families.
In a recorded message during the OFW Global Summit commemorating the 31st National Migrant Workers’ Day, Marcos said the government remains committed to defending the rights and welfare of Filipino workers abroad.
The President said the government is working to ensure that OFWs have access to assistance when needed, adequate protection while overseas, and opportunities when they return to the Philippines.
Marcos also highlighted the role of OFWs in nation-building and described their stories as examples of courage, hope, and sacrifice.
During the summit in Quezon City, 50 overseas Filipino workers received livelihood assistance under the Department of Migrant Workers-National Capital Region’s Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration.
A non-government organization also donated 25 sewing machines to beneficiaries to help them establish alternative sources of income.
Marcos said the government would continue pursuing programs aimed at protecting migrant workers and helping them build better opportunities for themselves and their families upon their return home.
