Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena managed to secure a spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Obiena has cleared 5.82 meters in the BAUHAUS-Galan leg of the Diamond League in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday that enabled him to qualify for the Olympics.

Obiena needed to clear the record after two attempts. Obiena also attempted to clear 5.95 meters but failed to do so.

A male vaulter needs to clear between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024 before he can secure a lot for the Olympics.

Obiena finished second in the said event behind Olympic gold medalist Armand Duplantis who cleared 6.05 meters.

Obiena last competed in the 2021 Tokyo Games where he ranked 11th in the men’s vault competition. The Filipino vaulter managed to defend his gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games last May.
