President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has lauded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who serve as “modern-day heroes” and has vowed to ensure the safety, welfare, and well-being of overseas Filipinos.
In a video released on Wednesday, Marcos recognized the sacrifices of OFWs in commemoration of the Migrant Workers’ Day.
“We understand the challenges that you face being far from your loved ones, adjusting to new culture, and overcoming barriers,” Marcos said in a video message.
“That’s why this administration will continue to foster stronger ties with countries that host our migrant workers, ensuring your safety, welfare, and well-being,” he added.
Marcos noted that OFWs are “cherished and valued,” saying they have left an indelible mark wherever in the world they go.
“Your contributions have enriched the lives of countless individuals and societies through your different professions and capacities,” Marcos stated.
“Despite the miles that separate us, your heart and soul remain firmly rooted in our homeland and your unwavering love for our nation shines bright. Your hard-earned reward has likewise nurtured your dreams, elevated livelihoods, and fuel the engine of progress in our beloved Philippines,” he added.
Migrant Workers’ Day is celebrated every 7th of June in commemoration of the passing into law of Republic Act 8042 or the Migrant Workers Act of 1995.
