The World Health Organization believes that amid declining cases and global vaccine rollout, the COVID-19 pandemic is still far from over.
“While progress has been made through increased uptake of Covid-19 vaccines and therapeutics, analysis of the present situation and forecasting models indicate that the pandemic is far from finished,” the WHO said in a statement last week.

WHO also called for further research into reusable masks and respirators and next-generation vaccines.
In addition, experts reiterated that the use of masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene, and improving the ventilation of indoor spaces remain.
The international organization also laments Africa’s vaccination, testing, and treatment rates.

In an AFP report, just 14 vaccine doses have been administered per 100 people in Africa.
“The figure stands at 128 doses in the United States and Canada; 113 in Europe; 106 in Latin America and the Caribbean; 103 in Oceania; 102 in Asia; and 78 in the Middle East,” the AFP said.
The committee also called in countries to avoid vaccine brand discrimination. (TDT)
