Robredo admits initial plan to run for local post in 2022

Before she declared her presidential bid in the 2022 elections, Vice President Leni Robredo revealed that she initially wanted to run for a local post.

“Yung balak ko talaga, dalawa na lang — either magpapahinga ako o magkakandidato ako ng lokal,” Robredo said in her Sunday radio program.

The vice president said that it took her a while to decide after her consultations to unite different groups ahead of the polls.

“In the past months, mula siguro nung August, sumusubok na tayo na kausapin ‘yung ibang mga kandidato, ‘yung ibang mga grupo. Naghahanap sana ng paraan para magkaisa. ‘Yun ‘yung daan na tinatahak natin,” she added.

Robredo announced that she will run on October 7.

“Nag-exert tayo ng maraming effort na magkaroon sana ng unification para tutulong na lang ako sa mga national candidates and uuwi ako sa amin para d’on naman magbuhos ng serbisyo,” Robredo shared.

“Pero hindi naging maganda. ‘Yung pinagdadasal natin na magiging katapusan ng lahat ng usapan, hindi nangyari,” she added.

Robredo realized that it’s difficult to unite all political parties.

“Doon ko na-realize na mahirap talaga. Mahirap mag-unite ‘pag mayroong hindi alignment sa mga paniniwala, mayroong hindi pareho sa gustong daan na tahakin,” the vice president said.

Robredo was rumored to run as governor of Camarines Sur province should she decide not to run for president. (TDT)
