Multiple agencies have launched a probe into the death of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in a hotel quarantine facility in Cebu.

The investigations are being carried out in the death of Mercedita Torbeso, 53, who returned to Cebu on September 1, 2021, after teaching for six years in Cambodia.

Torbeso was looking forward to spending her retirement with her family this time, according to her relatives. However, just days after her arrival in Cebu, she was found dead on September 4 inside her room inside SEDA Hotel, a hotel isolation facility in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

Earlier the family appealed for an investigation as they believed the medical staff overlooked her condition. Her relatives said they told the staff that she had severe asthma.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Central Visayas (OWWA-7)and the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) spearhead the investigation, according to Cebu Daily News.

The staff of SEDA hotel said they are cooperating with the authorities and have already submitted the incident report and statement to OWWA as part of the investigation.
