BOQ: Digital vaccine certificates to be issued next month

The Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) said digital vaccine certificates for Filipino travelers are set to be issued next month.

BOQ deputy director Roberto Salvador Jr. said in a Laging Handa briefing that the government is now speeding up the system for the launch of digital vaccination certificates.

The government aims to start issuing certificates in September.

“We are part of the Technical Working Group that is working on this digital vaccination card, with the DICT in the lead,” Salvador said.

He added that the Department of Foreign Affairs will be the one to coordinate with host countries to recognize the vaccine certificates which will be issued by the Philippine government.

The local government units must upload the names of individuals who completed their COVID-19 jabs on the vaccination information system.

For now, travelers who need immediate certification can get the yellow cards issued by the BOQ.

“They can show the yellow card to their country of destination. The yellow card indicates the vaccines that they have received,” he added.

Last week, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. said that OFWs cannot return to Hong Kong because they don’t recognize the vaccination cards issued by various LGUs.
