The OCTA research group reported that Davao City has already surpassed the daily coronavirus cases of Quezon City.
OCTA research fellow Guido David explained that they cannot tell the cause of the spike in Mindanao. However, he said it’s possible that some infected travellers managed to pass through borders.
“Today, nalagpasan na ng Davao City ‘yung Quezon City sa seven-day average. Yung average ng Davao City, 213 cases per day. Sa Quezon City, 207,” David said in an interview on GMA News.
The research team has previously identified some areas in Mindanao that have been recording high number of infections.
These cities include Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Koronadal, Cotabato and Davao.
Davao City has recorded 54% increase in new COVID-19 cases.
The city is now under modified enhanced community quarantine from June 5 to 20.
