Sara Duterte on presidential bid: COVID-19 might get me already

Less than a year before the start of election season, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said it is still too early to talk about her possible presidential bid.

In her weekly radio program, the presidential daughter said she is not even sure if she would still be alive by October citing the uncertainty brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“2022 is still far away, but I don’t know if I can even be here in October because COVID-19 might get me already. There isn’t anything definite in this time of a pandemic,” Duterte said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

The presidential daughter led the February survey of Pulse Asia for the 2022 presidential race.

Duterte led the poll among 13 possible candidates with 27%. Former Senator Bongbong Marcos, Jr. (13%), Senator Grace Poe (12%), Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso (12%), and Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao (11%) are all virtually tie in second place.

Vice Leni Robredo followed in the list with 7%, then Senator Bong Go (5%), former Vice President Jojo Binay (3%), Senator Ping Lacson (2%) and Alan Peter Cayetano (2%).

The filing for the Certificate of Candidacies for national post for the 2022 national elections is scheduled in October.
