BREAKING: US issues ‘do not travel’ advisory to PH due to high level of COVID-19 cases

The United States’ Centers for Disease and Control Prevention has issued a ‘do not travel’ advisory to the Philippines among its citizens due to ‘very high level’ of COVID-19 cases.

“Travelers should avoid all travel to the Philippines,” the CDC said in its advisory.

It adds that due to the current situation in the Philippines, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to the Philippines.

“If you must travel to the Philippines, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travelers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands,” the advisory added.

CDC raises a destination’s Travel Health Notice (THN) level when the incidence rate or case count meets the THN threshold for a higher level for 14 consecutive days.

The THN level may be raised sooner than 14 days if there is a large increase in COVID-19 cases reported.

The Philippines’ total coronavirus cases is nearing the one million mark after recording 7,379 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, April 20.

The Department of Health said this brought the total active cases in the country to 127,006, of which, 96.9% are mild, 1.3% are asymptomatic, 0.6% are critical, and 0.7% are in severe condition.

The number of recoveries also increased to 809,959 after 21,664 were recorded.

The death toll has climbed to 16,141 with 93 new fatalities.
