The Presidential Security Group (PSG) were the first ones from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines, as confirmed by an official statement from the country’s armed forces.
The statement explained that the inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccine was in line with the nature of the PSG’s mission and function which is to protect President Rodrigo Duterte from all kinds of threats.
“As the unit primarily tasked to protect and secure the highest official of the land, the PSG will have to ensure that the President is safe from all threats – including COVID-19,” read the statement.

AFP, however, did not reveal which particular vaccine the PSG members took, nor to the details and arrangements as to how the vaccines were obtained.
“Because of the safety of the President equates to national well-being, that security posture should necessarily include protecting the Commander-in-Chief from contracting the deadly virus from those he is constantly exposed to like the members of his security detail,” read the statement.
