A high school student in Indonesia has committed suicide on October 27, allegedly due to stress from remote learning, according to the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).
In a report by The Jakarta Post, KPAI commissioner Retno Listyarti said the student killed himself after receiving a letter from his school, which states that he had many assignments pending from 11 subjects.
The letter also noted that he would not be able to take his final exams unless he completes the assignments.

Listyarti said he is the third student who had committed suicide due to inability to cope with distance learning. She added that the school’s letter might have exacerbated the teen’s suicidal tendencies, which he developed due to the pandemic.
She also stressed that the mother stands by his child not being lazy, and that he was not able to do the assignments only because he did not understand the subject. There was, she said, lack of explanation from the teacher, and the parents aren’t also able to help him with his schoolwork.
Tarakan administration and the city’s integrated care centre for the empowerment of women and children are called on to provide psychological assistance for the teen’s parents and family members, The Jakarta Post added in its report.
