The Dubai Court of First Instance is hearing the case of a Dubai expat who allegedly bribed a policeman with Dh50,000, Mercedes, and Rolex to release him.
In a report by Gulf News, the 40-year-old Pakistani was arrested last June.
The policeman said that he caught the defendant at Bur Dubai Police station because he returned to the UAE after being deported.
“He asked me to let him contact a person and help him to escape the prison for a bribe. He offered Dh50,000, a Rolex, Mercedes and a monthly salary to help him whenever he was arrested in the future,” the policeman said.
The defendant told the officer to think about his offer, but the policeman alerted his director instead.
“He asked me to make a phone call to a person to bring advance money of the bribe and that he will give me the rest after he escape the prison,” the officer said upon the orders to trap the defendant.
The Pakistani called his friends and two men later on arrived with Dh15,000 as bribe.
The second suspect said he knew the defendant while the other one denied that he was involved with them.
The Dubai Prosecution charged the three expats for bribing an authority.
Their next hearing was set on October 25.
