Passengers of a ferry recently rescued a four-year-old child floating in the open sea in Patras, Greece on August 24, Greek Reporter reported.
According to the ferry’s captain Grigoris Karnesis, the child was clinging on her inflatable lifesaver and was in a state of shock.
“She was in a state of shock. She was clinging on this inflatable toy and did not move, she was frozen. When she saw us approaching, she shrieked,” he said in an interview with local TV media.
The girl, he added, was swimming with her parents near Antirrio Port when strong currents swept and took her to the sea’s deep waters.
The captain said they received a report about a girl adrift near their route. They immediately located and rescued the kid upon seeing her.
“As I was approaching the port of Antirrio, I was informed by port authority that a child with an inflatable toy had been swept away by the currents. I located her and left directly for her rescue. She was one with the unicorn… she had turned to a pillar of salt. She had lost contact with the environment,” Karnesis added.
He added that the child was also in a state of shock when they called her to pick her up.
