UAE Philippine Overseas Labor Offices reveal nearly 32,000 OFWs approved for DOLE-AKAP financial aid

Overseas Filipinos who applied for the Department of Labor and Employment’s Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong (DOLE-AKAP) program have reached over 31,800+ as of July 19.

Records from both Philippine Overseas Labor Offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi reveal an estimated total of 116,500+ applications that have been received.

Here’s the total breakdown per emirate:

Abu Dhabi (as of July 19):

24,000+ – Total applications received, the majority of applications have been evaluated as per officials.
12,000+ – Total approved applications
9,000+ – Total number of OFWs paid out
3,000+ – Approved applications pending pay out

Total fund allocation for OFWs in Abu Dhabi: 13,000 OFWs only (Php130,000,000)

Dubai and Northern Emirates (as of July 16):

92,532 – Total applications received
41,964 – Total evaluated applications
19,802 – Total approved applications
14,050 – Total number of OFWs paid out
5,752 – Approved applications pending pay out

Total fund allocation for OFWs in Dubai and Northern Emirates: 22,000 OFWs only (Php220,000,000)

Total number of OFWs in UAE to benefit from DOLE-AKAP: 35,000
Total fund allocation for UAE: Php 350 million

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III earlier announced that the DOLE-AKAP program already provided the one-time financial assistance to over 200,000 Filipinos around the world.

This is equivalent to over Php 2 billion disbursed for the needs of those whose livelihood and employment have been affected due to the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
