Children’s rights discussed in Bahrain at World Children’s Day

The rights and protection of children against trafficking and other immoral actions have been highlighted at the celebration of the Children’s Day in Bahrain.

As part of its celebration of the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and World Children’s Day, the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain held a meeting with the Filipino Community on November 20, 2019 at the Embassy grounds to talk about initiatives of the Embassy towards advancing and protecting the rights of children.

Videos published by relevant United Nations agencies about the basic rights of the child were also shown to the attendees. Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso Ver also discussed the Rights of the Child—especially to a name and nationality, and access to quality healthcare and education, emphasizing that it is the obligation of parents, guardians, the community and our government to ensure that the rights of Filipino children are protected and respected.

Ambassador Ver also took this opportunity to encourage those who attended the meeting and who are caring for undocumented children in Bahrain, to recognize the importance of the rights of these children to a name and nationality and to register them with the Embassy. He explained that the Embassy can assist those in irregular circumstances in order to register the birth of these children and to facilitate their repatriation to the Philippines through the Embassy’s Oplan Kabataan Program.
