As midnight struck, fans witnessed the first 4:45 minutes of Netflix’s original anime series “Trese” – barely 13 minutes before its premiere on June 11 with the appearance of Liza Soberano.
As the countdown began at 11:47 p.m of “Trese Before Midnight,” on Netflix Philippines’ Facebook page with “Trese” Filipino voice actor Soberano on the show, it also highlighted the debut of UDD’s “Paagi,” the Pinoy band’s first-ever concert with a ghost audience while UDD performs for the first-time the anime’s official soundtrack.
“It’s contemporary music but with Filipino instruments,” said Oliva — the series executive producer, director, and showrunner –who was also present in the countdown show with writer and executive producer Tanya Yuson, Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo.

Oliva expressed excitement and a little sadness over the debut of his and Budjette’s masterpiece which they co-created in 2005 as a cult favorite horror/noir graphic novel.
Describing as surreal that “Trese” is finally having its own airtime, Yuson recalled picking up a “Trese” book in 2009, before falling in love with the myth of “Trese” set in a backdrop of a Manila where supernatural creatures live among unsuspecting humans. since illustrating the cult favorite horror/noir graphic novel written by his buddy Budjette.
Yuson — who is co-founders of BASE Entertainment studio based in Jakarta and Singapore– loved it so much that she called Budjette and expressed interest in turning it into a series or film.
Noting the global platform’s wide reach, Yuson said “Trese” was based on Filipino folklore but could even be related to others who did not grow up in the Philippines. (AW)
