For two decades, Parokya Ni Edgar has not faltered in entertaining Filipinos with their unique and original rock songs. Their novelty melodies, satirical covers, and music that will make you sing at the top of your lungs make them one of the country’s greatest musicians that ever existed.
Formed in 1993 by a group of childhood friends, the band is five is still standing strong, with fans constantly wanting for more of their songs—truly speaking a lot about their unique talent and prowess in music.
Here are some fun facts about Parokya Ni Edgar:
1. The band is composed of vocalist Alfonso “Chito” Miranda Jr.; bassist Buhawi “Buwi” Meneses; the guitarist is Darius Gerard “Dar” Semaña; guitarist and vocalist Gabriel Ignatius “Jabber” Chee Kee; backing vocalist Vinci Montaner (on hiatus); and drummer Ferdinand “Dindin” Moreno.
2. The idea for the band’s name came from their classmate named Bambi Cuna, who answered “Parokya ni Edgar” when asked by their teacher about what the school of Crisostomo Ibarra is.
3. Their first-ever album, Khangkhungkherrnitz, turned into a triple-platinum hit in the Philippines, having sold 120,000 units.
4. The nickname of their vocalist Chito Miranda is TIKMOL, a nickname given by his dad himself.
5. When Buwi began playing bass for Parokya, he was then a vocalist for another punk band.
6. Miranda played in one of the episodes of Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal. Failing Failing to take home the jackpot prize of PHP4 million, the band only won PHP750.
7. Montaner left the band thrice. First in 2005, when he attended school. He returned in 2007 amid the release of their album ‘Solid’. In October 2012, he left again for personal reasons. He came back in 2016 when he became a featured artist in the bank’s tenth studio album, ‘Pogi Years Old’. He went on hiatus again in 2019.
8. Parokya Ni Edgar now has more than 200 songs in over 12 albums.
9. Miranda got viral on the internet due to a sex video with girlfriend and now wife, Neri Naig. He has since become a ‘husband goal’ for posting sweet messages for his wife.
