Pia Wurtzbach encourages social media influencers to help victims of COVID-19

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach has encouraged social media influencers to use their huge onine following to help those affected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In an interview by CNN, the beauty queen said it is the responsibility of influencers as well as personalities with a huge following to help during this challenging time,
“You don’t have to be a beauty queen or a celebrity. If you have a decent following, if you’re a vlogger, a blogger, an influencer, or you have contacts with people who can donate, just try [and] do it,” CNN Philippines quoted Wurtzbach as saying.

Wurtzbach has now raised PHP450,000 out of her PHP600,000 aim to procure protective gear and supplies for medical health workers in Metro Manila. She has also donated around 17,000 face masks for those infected by the disease.
Earlier, she said this initiative was born out of her aim to do something for those battling the disease in the front lines even from her home. She said it is the ideal time to put social media following to good use—adding that she got her first 5,000 face masks only a day after asking friends for suppliers.

“That was how fast and easy it was for me to get hold of the suppliers and get the masks. So I thought to myself, what if I have more? What if I could buy more? I want to encourage everyone to do what they can. A little goes a long way,” she said in an interview with CNN.
The beauty queen added that she will aim to order N95 masks next for the health workers.
