Kobe Byrant's widow sues helicopter operator

Vanessa Bryant, the widow of the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the operator of the helicopter that killed the former professional basketball player and eight others.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court as thousands gathered for the public memorial for Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others were killed in the accident last month. The group was on their way to a youth basketball game.
Vanessa’s lawsuit seeks general damages, economic damages, punitive damages and more against Island Express Holding Corp. and Island Express Helicopters.

The pilot, Ara Zobayan, who was also killed in the crash that occured in Calabasas, California was shuttling the group from Orange County to an airport north of Los Angeles.
“Defendant Island Express Helicopters’ breach of its duty and negligence caused the injuries and damages complained of herein and Plaintiffs’ deceased, Kobe Bryant, was killed as a direct result of the negligent conduct of Zobayan for which Defendant Island Express Helicopters is vicariously liable in all respects,” the lawsuit read.
