SM Group’s second-generation tycoon Hans Sy and actress Angel Locsin were named in Forbes’ 13th annual Heroes of Philanthropy list featuring “30 outstanding altruists” in Asia-Pacific.
The list recognizes billionaires, businessmen, and celebrities who have made a difference in addressing social issues across the region.
“Our aim is to highlight those giving their own money, not their company’s (unless they are the majority owners of a privately-held firm),” Forbes said in a statement.
The group has reviewed the monetary value of contribution and the depth of their involvement in different causes.
Forbes acknowledged Locsin for her generous ₱1-million donation and her personal delivery of relief goods to residents affected by earthquakes in Mindanao last October.
“Locsin, whose mother was adopted by a family from the island, has long helped the region, which has been driven by sectarian strife for decades,” the magazine said.
The actress donated Php15 million on educational scholarship in the last 10 years. Recently, she was spotted in Davao helping and buying relief goods for earthquake victims.
Forbes also remembered Locsin’s efforts in 2017 for the war-torn city of Marawi.
Sy, on the other hand, was recognized for his family’s construction of Child Haus, a center that help children battling cancer.
