Aiko Melendez defends boyfriend from narco-politician list

Kapamilya actress Aiko Melendez is “standing by her man” after her boyfriend, Subic Mayor Jefferson “Jay” Khonghun, got included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s new “narco-list,” which enlists politicians who are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

Khonghun posted a Facebook live video to address the inclusion of his name in the said list and Malendez also made an appearance to make a plea.

Even though she did not mention any names, Melendez strongly denied the accusations and asked those who are seated in the higher positions to not defame the reputation of her boyfriend by spreading lies about him.

Melendez added that this is only an alleged attempt to derail Khonghun’s campaign for the May midterm elections.

She said in the video that she will let the people of Zambales make the decision in the upcoming elections.

After posting the video, Melendez also shared more photos on her Instagram account to express her support for her boyfriend.

“I finally understood what true love means,” she captioned one photo.

“Love means that you care for another person’s happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you make and you face maybe,” she added including a hashtag that read: “I am standing by my man.”

For his part, Khonghun denied his involvement in the illegal drug trade by saying: “Hindi na po namin kailangan gawin na magprotekta ng droga or maging drug lord dahil hindi naman po kami ganun kahirap.”

“At isa pa po, matagal na rin pong nangongontrata ang aking ama bilang contractor bago siya pumasok sa politika. Congressman na po siya, mayor na po ako, board member na po ang kapatid ko bakit naman namin kailangan gawin yun, eh meron din naman po kaming pamilya na kailangan alagaan, protektahan,” he added.

Melendez and Khonghun first made their relationship public in March last year.
