LOOK: PH bet stuns in Moriones festival-inspired outfit during Miss Intercontinental nat’l costume show

Karen Gallman, the Philippines’ representative to the 47th Miss Intercontinental, made heads turn with her modern warrior ensemble during the pageant’s national costume competition.

During the said competition which was held on January 19 at Okada Manila, the candidates wore costumes that best represent their respective country’s culture and Gallman opted to don a Mariones festival-inspired outfit designed by Patrick Isorena.

“The National Costume is inspired by the Moryonan also known as the Moriones Festival. It is a colorful festival celebrated on the island of Marinduque in the Philippines during the Holy Week,” Isorena explained on Instagram.

“The ‘moriones’ are people in costumes and masks replicating the garb of biblical Roman soldiers as interpreted by local folks.

“This festival inspired the creation of other festivals in the Philippines where cultural practices or folk history is turned into street festivals.

“The mythical bird ‘Sarimanok’ was also added to the whole ensemble making it more dramatic,” he added.

Estar en un concurso internacional es muy desgastante (aunque en algunos no sales del hotel) en TODO sentido, no es como creen, o tal vez no es como yo creí. Mis días acaban a las 12am (añádanle el llegar a la habitación a arreglar las cosas etc) y algunas mañanas nos piden estar listas a las 6:15am (obvio te levantas antes para peinarte etc); nos hacen dejar los celulares en el bus o los quitan después del desayuno y devuelven después de la cena (por eso no posteo tanto); algunas visitas han sido a 6h/5h y soportas un bus con calor extremo o un aire que congela; la tos y dolor de cabeza/garganta me acompañan ya por 5 días (creo que todas están enfermas, es como una epidemia jajaj); la comida no es light/healthy (aunque estos postres no los cambiaria por nada); y hay muchas cosas más que seguramente podré contar después… Me dijeron que si alguna vez tropezaba tenía que seguir caminando y sonreír, nunca me dijeron que era posible que el taco se atascara dos veces en las divisiones de pasarela y se saliera pero bueno use la misma técnica ?. Sé que con 1 sem antes del concurso def no se lograría los mismos resultados que meses de concentración, pero lo tomé como reto y créanme que di todo esos días. Hoy desperté feliz (en esa foto en realidad solo sonreía), después de 9 días acá puedo decir que hoy me siento bien (aunque no lo digo por ganar el título de best costume) sino porque en vdd hoy sí lo sentí, al fin. Mi familia y seres queridos son mi impulso, y sé que ellos van a estar ahí para seguir siendo mi soporte ante cualquier situación; además, encontré chicas maravillosas acá (uno siempre en concursos tiene ese prejuicio de mean girls) que te brindan la mano (en este caso maquillaje ropa etc jajaja) y el aliento que puedes necesitar en momentos difíciles. Todas estamos luchando día a día, mi directora siempre me repite que es un concurso de resistencia n i’m a warrior bby. Mañana es mi entrevista (la 1ra etapa de puntaje, todo lo anterior no acumulaba pts) y creo estar lista; a pesar de casi no tener mi celular quería agradecerles de todo ❤️ sus msjs o comentarios porque me alegran mucho, decirles que es difícil pero soy fuerte así que #vamosperu ??

The coronation night of the 47th Miss Intercontinental will take place on January 26 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Gallman is hoping to win the Philippines’ first Miss Intercontinental crown. Last year, Katarina Rodriguez came close to winning the crown when she finished as first runner-up.
