An epic concert! That is what it was.
When Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), managing Wish FM 107.5, CEO and President, Daniel Razon, said that they are expecting to relive the heyday of the Original Music Pinoy (OPM) scene, one may think that this is just another ordinary concert where you sing along with the artists you grew up with. Well, that is just an understatement. Because in truth, the 90’s Upload concert is little short of awesomeness – overarching sense of nostalgia. It was totally a musical treat for everyone across ages. People were doing ‘head-bang’, jumping and jamming all night. It was some sort of an awakening to your otherwise curbed up professional self. The audiences were simply gobsmacked seeing their favorite music icons – Wency Cornejo (Afterimage), Cooky Chua (Color It Red), Naldy Padilla (Orient Pearl), Lei Bautista (Prettier Than Pink) and Glenn Jacinto (Teeth) – performed live on stage once again.
“We are very thankful and na-appreciate ng ating mga kabayan ang mga events natin” Razon stated. He even pointed out that they are happy to bring some kind of relief to our kabayans who are feeling a bit homesick.
A total of 29 timeless hits were performed and the line up includes Color It Red ‘Paglisan’, Teeth’s ‘Prinsesa’ & ‘Laklak’, Orient Pearl’s ‘Pagsubok’ & ‘Pag-ibig Ko’y Muli Mong Pagbigyan’, Prettier Than Pink’s ‘Cool ka lang’, Afterimage’s ‘Next in Line’. Apart from their original songs, they also paid tribute to other artists that were gone but not forgotten by singing their songs such as ‘Kaleidoscope’ by Francis M, ‘Your Love’ by Gary Ignacio of Alamid and more.
On the side, the Wishful singers gave out another wonderful performance as well singing songs from the past and they have blended well together with the rock ‘n’ roll artists from the 90’s. A special participation of Jet Pangan of The Dawn also gave everyone a glimpse of what has transpired and inspired the music scene in the Philippines in a video that was played in every segment in the show.
There were no dull moments that evening as each had brought their A-game (not to mention Wency’s 4x wardrobe change) and they played song after song non-stop. The powerfully evocative lyrics of the nineties songs have resonated with concert goers. And the sound of the ‘then youth angst’ you have come to know and listened to reverberated in the entire hall.
The event, which was supposedly a simple celebration of Wency Cornejo’s 50th birthday in 2017, now became a huge concert series – a sure hit! The initial act in 2017 was called 90’s Live, followed by the recent 90’s Overload show in Manila and then the 90’s Upload in Dubai this year. The fourth one will be in January 2019 which they call it 90’s Storm.
Such rarity should be celebrated! Kudos to all Batang 90’s. Pinoy rock lives on!
The ’90s Upload concert was organized by La Verdad Events Management.
