Filipino talents take over ‘Miss Saigon’ UK tour

Four Filipino talents are now part of the ensemble of the “Miss Saigon” UK tour after Leo Valdez reprised his role as The Engineer in the ongoing production.

In an entertainment column by Ricky Lo, Valdez will once again take on the said role which he already portrayed more than 10 years ago.

Valdez said that he cleared his schedule and called off some of his commitments after he got the invitation to return to the “Miss Saigon” stage from Trevor Jackson, the musical’s executive producer.

“Actually, I have commitments until December but I decided to set aside some of them for Miss Saigon. I love Miss Saigon; I owe a lot to Miss Saigon,” Valdez said in a message he sent to Lo.

Valdez flew to London on September 17 and will start rehearsing on September 24.

He first performed as The Engineer in 1994, and has went on to take on the role a few more times when “Miss Saigon” had productions in several countries.

Valdez was also The Engineer, and even performed alongside the show’s original lead Lea Salonga, when the musical reached Manila.

He said that he was “honored” to be considered by the show’s creator, Cameron Mackintosh, to join the cast.

Aside from Valdez, more Filipinos will also appear on the show including Joreen Bautista who will give life to the character of Kim, Aicelle Santos as Gigi, and Gerald Santos as Thuy.
