Dubai Police warn against buying stolen credit cards online; violators face up to Dh2M fine

Dubai Police have warned residents against purchasing or using stolen credit cards promoted through suspicious websites and online pages, saying violators could face imprisonment and fines of up to Dh2 million under the UAE cybercrime law.

Dubai Police said criminal networks operating outside the country have been promoting stolen banking data and compromised credit cards through fraudulent online platforms.

Lieutenant Colonel Ali Al Yammahi said victims often unknowingly expose their banking details by entering card information on fake websites designed to imitate legitimate service providers or by clicking fraudulent payment links.

He warned that stolen banking information is later traded through organized criminal networks and may be used days or even weeks after being compromised, making it difficult for victims to trace the source of the breach.

Dubai Police also revealed that some individuals knowingly purchase stolen credit card information online and use the data for illegal shopping transactions.

Authorities stressed that such activities are punishable under the UAE’s Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021 on combating rumors and cybercrimes.

Under the law, offenders involved in electronic fraud and online financial crimes may face prison terms and fines ranging from Dh200,000 to Dh2 million.

Police urged residents to immediately report unexpected deductions or suspicious transactions involving their bank accounts or credit cards, saying rapid intervention may help authorities recover stolen funds and minimize financial losses.

Dubai Police also reminded the public to avoid suspicious websites and to verify payment links before entering personal banking information online.
