Filipino actress Anne Curtis took it to Instagram to congratulate her ‘scholar’ who recently graduated from college.
Sareena Mariella Calonzo, a deaf student who received a scholarship from Curtis’ passion project called Dream Machine Philippines, graduated from Miriam College where she took Bachelors of Science in Entrepreneurship Minor in Product Design and Development.
The “It’s Showtime” host broke the news on Instagram, saying that one of her scholars is a step closer to reaching her dreams.
“Several years ago, I met a girl named [Sareena Calonzo]. She would come to my mall shows, come watch Showtime, and hang out with @realf2 if we had gatherings,” the actress said.
She has always been a loyal supporter of mine… And one day, the time came she needed my support. I have always had faith in her. And wanted to help her in pursuing her biggest dream,” Curtis wrote before revealing a photo of the graduation programme bearing her name and Calonzo’s.
Curtis ended her Instagram Stories by giving a congratulatory message to her scholar.
The actress wrote: “[Sareena Calonzo], may you be an inspiration to others that that there is never a mountain too high or a dream too big. And may you always pay it forward one day and make someone else’s dream come true too.”
“Big hug! Love you! Congratulations!” Anne said.
Curtis was not able to attend Calonzo’s graduation ceremony because of her busy schedule, but they were able to meet during a mall show of her upcoming movie “Sid & Aya” in Gateway Mall, Quezon City.
For her part, Calonzo uploaded her graduation photo on Instagram with the caption: “This is it! Can’t thank you enough, Ate Anne!”
In her Facebook account, Calonzo also shared a lengthy post where she talked about her struggles as a deaf student. She also thanked the people who have been with her during her academic journey.
She also mentioned Curtis in the post, thanking the actress for supporting the deaf community.
