Meet the Fil-Am child actor in Disney film “A Wrinkle in Time”

Filipino-American child actor Deric McCabe could be the next big thing after bagging one of the lead roles in Disney film “A Wrinkle in Time.”

McCabe, who played the role of Charles Wallace Murry in the fantasy movie, was born in Whitefish, Montana to a Filipina mother named Judith.

The child actor said he is excited to visit the Philippines given a chance.

“I have not yet gone to the Philippines but I heard that everything is better in the Philippines. Just like what the billboards say, ‘It is more fun in the Philippines!,” he told Manila Bulletin.

McCabe is also a fan of Filipino food as his mother always cooks Filipino dishes for them at home. He also likes playing the piano.

A Wrinkle in Time is not the first time McCabe was seen on screen. He was also in the horror film “Stephanie,” where he portrayed Moppet and “Hold On,” a drama where he portrayed Paul Duran.

Director of the film Ava DuVernay said they searched all over the world to find a child who would be perfect to play the role of Charles Wallace Murry only to find Fil-Am child Deric McCabe, who lives three minutes away from Disney.

“This kid came in. You see him in the movie, he is something else. He really is a find,” DuVernay told Manila Bulletin.

DuVernay described McCabe as “mischievous,” “sweet” and “full of energy.”

“We are so proud of him. First Filipino star of a major studio motion picture in Hollywood. It’s a big deal,” DuVernay added.
