MIAA under fire for alleged use of fake Windows 7 software

A photo suggesting that the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is using a fake copy of Windows 7 at the country’s main gateway, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, is circulating online.

Reddit user u/LyraStark posted a photo on Monday, October 8, showing one of the monitors in NAIA displaying the flight schedules for the day.

In the lower left of the photo, a pop-up message, “Windows is not genuine,” can be seen with a reminder that says: “Click this message to learn how to get genuine.”

According to Gadget Match, Windows notifies users when they detect an anomaly in the installation process of the software, this includes the installation of fake copies of the software.

Windows is also keen in reprimanding those who are installing fake copies of the software.

Due to the photo, several netizens have expressed their concern for other government agencies that are also using fake copies of the software. They also questioned where the supposed budget for these softwares are spent on instead.

MIAA, however, assured the public that the “acquisition of all MIAA equipment is above board” especially at NAIA following the release of the photo.

The authority added that its Management Information System Division is already investigating the legitimacy of the photo.
