WATCH: ‘Firenado’ rips through recycling center field

Firefighters were both amazed and terrified at the sight of a 60-foot ‘firenado’ ripping through a recycling center in Derbyshire, England on Tuesday, August 7.

The firefighters were battling a blaze when the firenado took place in a nearby field. Firefighters from the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Ashby Station were able to record the firenado and explained that they are “created as cool air enters the top of the hot air causing a swirl similar to how a tornado is formed.”

While many are familiar with the concept of tornadoes, firenadoes, also known as fire whirls, rarely occur. Like tornadoes, however, firenado is a natural phenomenon, reported NY Post

The owner of the recycling center was thankful that no one sustained injuries due to the fire.
