Off the Hook: ‘The messier, the merrier’

ABU DHABI: Boiled, oil-free seafood favorites. Sauce that comes in three unique flavors: house specialty, lemon pepper and garlic butter, originally made by the owner herself. All only at Off The Hook Restaurant.

The restaurant encourages everyone to have a communal-style dining experience, where enjoying a meal with bare hands is not frowned, instead exudes smiling faces – there are disposable gloves provided in each table, by the way.

“Off the Hook is a contemporary restaurant serving mainly Louisiana-style, boiled seafood favorites that are sold by the kilo including but not limited to crabs, mussels, shrimps, salmon, and lobsters generously soaked in various distinct sauces,” said Eleanor Genato De Leon, the restaurant owner and director for brand marketing.

Jonathan Ibarra, restaurant manager, for his part, said: “At Off The Hook, we also believe that the messier, the merrier,” daring everyone to forget their poise and just enjoy a happy meal time with their families and friends. He continued, “We are not promoting our catches here but our sauces.”

De Leon also shared how she came up to the idea of bringing the business to UAE. “It all started after we had our family trip to the U.S. last 2015,” she said, adding that she prepares the sauces herself – how it’s done is a family secret, according to her.

 

 

Meantime, diners do not have to worry about their bills, too because the restaurant has a reasonable price range which starts at Dh39 (for a half kg of crabs) up to Dh129 (for a kilo of lobsters). For only Dh123, you can have a half kilo of mussels (Dh45) another half kilo of shrimps (Dh59), crab balls (Dh13) and two bottled water (Dh6) – a  package that is already good for two.

 

Other catches they have include seafood trio, good for two to four persons; seafood grande which is good for eight to 10 persons and; their newest offering: scallops, crab claw and fishballs that best paired with either the house specialty or lemon pepper sauce.

 

Off The Hook Restaurant is located along Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum St. (Airport Rd.) Abu Dhabi, UAE. De Leon said they are expanding to Dubai, “Off the Hook, Abu Dhabi is our first in the UAE but we plan to open our second branch in Dubai by mid next year,” she said.
