The people of Sydney, Australia are getting curious of the content of a letter that Queen Elizabeth II dedicated to them.
However, the late monarch had instructed that the “secret” letter, which she penned in November 1986, should only be opened in 2085.
According to a report of 7NEWS Australia, the letter is currently secured inside a vault in a historic building in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney’s CBD.
Addressed to the future Lord Mayor of Sydney, the instruction reads: “On a suitable day to be selected by you in the year 2085AD, would you please open this envelope and convey to the citizens of Sydney my message to them.”
The letter was signed simply “Elizabeth”.
The Queen Victoria Building, named after the great grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II, was set to be demolished in the 1950s, but a bid to restore it was ultimately successful.
The restoration was completed in 1986, prompting the mysterious letter to be written.
