Dubai-based photographers offer free portraits to people who lost jobs

Two Dubai-based photographers are offering their help to people who were retrenched due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Photographers Ales Vyslouzil and Tara Atkinson launched the initiative called ‘Project Impression Session’ last June, in a bid to give job seekers a perfect, updated profile photo for their LinkedIn accounts and resumes.

The longtime friends are using a studio provided by Hot and Cold, located in Al Quoz, according to Emirates Women.

“The biggest struggle is to get noticed,” said the ‘Project Impression Session’ on an Instagram post. “Employers receive a big pool of CVs each day and it is challenging to stand out from the crowd.”

Ales is an architectural photographer while Tara shoots editorial and social imagery. Ales said, “Most of my business is done on LinkedIn and a lot of people do go by first impressions.”

He believes that the better the profile photo, the more chance that job seekers can make a good impression on potential employers.

“The better your picture is (expression, lighting, background) it tells your audience that you not only made an effort, but you invested in yourself, which is a quality that employers are looking for these days,” he said.

One of expats who availed of their free photo session was Sweta, who came to Dubai in the summer of 2018 in search of international work experience. Her journey had been brilliant until she has been affected by the lay offs due to Covid-19. Her biggest concern is in finding a stable position.

Sweta came to Dubai in the summer of 2018 in search of international work experience. Her journey had been brilliant until now, wherein the UAE has provided her with a comfortable lifestyle and safety. Unfortunately, she has been affected by the lay offs due to Covid-19. Her biggest concern is in finding a stable position, since the job market does not seem to pick up. Sending positive vibes to you Sweta! We hope you find something real soon. ———————- The Impression session project is supported by: @hotcoldrental @tap.creative and @alesphotography_arch ———————– #impressionsessiondxb #inspiring #givingback #freeportraits #communitysupport #careersupport #community #workopportunities #linkedinportrait #portraitproject #portraitphotography #supporteachother

Last July 30, the ‘Project Impression Session’ posted a beautiful photo of Sweta, with the caption that reads, “Sending positive vibes to you Sweta! We hope you find something real soon.”

Another was Anisa, whose stint as a healthcare administrator came to an end when the clinic she worked for decided to cease operations.

While she continues to look for a new job, she is using this time to update her skills, learn more about the digital world and technology.
