Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones and other officials will undergo self-quarantine after one of the participants in two meetings attended by DepEd officials tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The first meeting was held at DepEd Central Office last February 28, while the second incident happened during a Senate hearing on March 5.
None of its officials have exhibited symptoms of respiratory illness or diarrhea yet.
“Consistent with Department of Health (DOH) protocols, they have undertaken the necessary precautions, including home quarantine starting today,” DepEd said in a statement.
While Secretary Briones did not have exposure to the confirmed COVID-19 case, she is now on self-quarantine as extra precautionary measure.
DepEd said its officials and personnel will continue to do their duties through telecommunication.
The agency added that it is working with DOH for guidance on managing the situation.
