After securing a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Carlos Yulo made history for the country once again as he bagged the gold medal at the World Artistics Gymnastics Championships at Stuttgart, Germany.
Yulo was the first ever winner of the world artistic gymnastics gold in the men’s floor exercise for the Philippines.
He was able to top the men’s floor exercise final with a score of 15.300.
The athlete defeated gymnastics powerhouse from Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat and China’s Xiao Ruoteng who settled for second and third place respectively.
He was also the first Filipino to win a medal in the same event last year as he went home with a bronze medal.
“Looking at my medal last year, I said to myself I will win gold next year,” Yulo told the Olympic channel.
The athlete is one of the flag bearers of the Southeast Asian Games and will also compete in December.
