Slovak gov’t vows justice for OFW beaten to death, shoulders repatriation of remains with PH

The Slovak government has given financial assistance in the repatriation of the remains of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) beaten to death in Slovakia and vowed to serve justice to his family.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Cayetano announced the Slovak government’s support upon the arrival of the remains of OFW Henry John Acorda at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the morning of June 19.

Before Acorda’s remains were flown to the Philippines, more than 3,000 protesters gathered in Bratislava, Slovakia to mourn his death and to ensure that his murder will not be forgotten.

Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini has also said that justice needs to be served for the OFW immediately.

“I hope we will not witness a situation where there will be no effective ruling one year from now,” Pellegrini said.

The body of OFW was airlifted by Slovak government Airbus aircraft. His mother and two siblings were also aboard the aircraft.

Acorda was beaten to death by suspect Juraj Hossu at Business Street in downtown Bratislava, Slovakia, in the early hours of May 26.

The Filipino was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on May 31, five days after the incident, at the University Hospital Ruźjnov after sustaining fatal injuries.
