A poll taken by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) found that fewer Filipino families experienced hunger during 2017’s first quarter compared to the previous quarter.
The March 25 to 28 poll showed that 11.9 percent or an estimated 2.7 million households missed a meal at least once in the past quarter. The figure is 2 percentage points below the 13.9% or 3.1 million families logged in the December poll.
Hunger affected 13.7 percent or some 3.1 million Filipino families in the first quarter of 2016, reported ABS CBN News.
The latest 11.9-percent hunger rating is comprised of 9.7 percent who said they experience “moderate hunger” and 2.2 percent who went through “severe hunger.”
Among the self-rated poor, hunger was down to to 17.1 percent, compared to the previous quarter’s 21 percent.
Hunger among the self-rated food-poor has also improved by 4.2 points to 20.7 percent
The SWS emphasized that the hunger rate among the self-rated food-poor was always greater than hunger among the self-rated poor.
