The Philippine’s finest athletes for the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 has just arrived in the UAE together with their coaches and mentors – and they’re now ready to bring pride to the country as they compete with over 7,000 athletes coming from 190+ countries around the world!

The Philippine team landed last Friday, March 8 and is currently enjoying town trips and cultural immersion experiences to enjoy what the UAE has to offer before they begin their games, set to take place from March 14 to 21.

Last year at the Special Olympics IX MENA Games 2018, the Philippines brought home 7 gold, 6 silver, 2 bronze, and one 4th place medal for a total of 16 medals after their success in the artistic gymnastics category.

This year, the Philippine team comprised of almost 40 athletes will be participating in eight different sports including Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Bocce, Gymnastics (rhythmic), Powerlifting, Bowling, and Football.

Further to the celebration of acceptance and tolerance in the UAE, the Special Olympics aims to prove to the world that people of determination can become valued members of their very own communities, leading to a more inclusive and respectful society for everyone.

Tickets to watch the games are free, while the opening ceremonies on March 14 are on sale.
