Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen announced that they will donate 10 million face masks to countries that are being seriously affected by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a report by the Central News Agency (CNA), the president announced this in a speech she delivered at the Presidential Office on Wednesday.
As of Tuesday, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said that their daily surgical mask output has hit 13 million.
Among those who will receive the masks will be their diplomatic allies – the United States and European countries, according to Foreign Minister Joseph Wu.
However, Minister Wu did not indicate when these would be donated.
Taiwan has increased its production of face masks, giving the country the ability to provide masks to countries that are experiencing major escalations in the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Tsai says the government aims to increase daily production still further to 15 million units.
They will also work with the global community by providing not only face masks but also drugs and related medical technology.
