The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has observed lower sulfur dioxide emission and less volcanic earthquakes from Taal Volcano.
State volcanologists however clarified that this does not mean that a hazardous eruption may no longer happen.
Phivolcs said that magma has already moved on the surface and could indicate that an explosive eruption is imminent.
“Araw-araw po nating sinusukat ang posibilidad na maaaring tuluyan nang manahimik ang bulkan at sa mga nakikita natin, downtrend po lahat ang monitoring parameters,” PHIVOLCS Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division chief Mariton told GMA News.
“Ngayon ay mababa po ang parameters pero nag-aalala po tayo kung anong mangyayari doon sa magma na nakaakyat na po at naghihintay o naka-abang sa ilalim ng bulkan,” Bornas added.
Phivolcs said that the earthquakes and cracks observed in nearby towns after January 12 indicate that eruption may still happen.
Alert Level 4 remains in effect which means that a hazardous explosion may occur in the coming hours and days.
