Cops round up 100 children in Manila for violating curfew ordinance

More than 100 children in Manila were rounded up by authorities for violating curfew ordinance last Monday night.

Under Ordinance No. 8547, children aged 17 years old and below are prohibited from loitering in the streets from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

A group of children in Sta. Cruz was apprehended after figuring in a trouble, as per a report from ABS-CBN.

Parents also rushed to Raxabago Police Station in Tondo where more than 100 children were apprehended.

Some parents reasoned out that their children were out on the street to buy medicines. Some children were caught in computer shops and in their favorite hangouts.

Several parents insisted that it was only that night that they learned that the Manila City Hall has ordered the implementation of the curfew ordinance.

Police Lt. Col. Reynaldo Magdaluyo said not knowing the existing ordinance is not an excuse.

Parents were warned that they could be charged if their children are caught violating the ordinance.
