The Transportation Department has given the green light to San Miguel Holdings Corporation to construct the Php736.7 billion international airport project in Bulacan.
San Miguel has no contender in the bidding process and is set to begin the construction this year.
The DOTr said that a 60-day window was given to potential challengers. The proposal yo construct a new international airport was first pitched in 2016 to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The project will be built in a 2,500 hectare seaside area in Bulacan.
“They (SMHC) have 20 days to comply with our conditions,” the DOTr said in a statement, adding that the notice of award can be issued within five days following the TWG recommendations.
The notice to proceed with the project will be issued by the first week of September.
“We still have a long way to go, but with the continued support of government and everyone, we hope to get started working right away,” San Miguel Chief Operationg Officer Ramon Ang said.
