China says sinking of Filipino vessel ‘ordinary maritime incident’

China has downplayed the sinking of a Filipino fishing vessel in the West Philippine Sea calling it an ‘ordinary maritime incident’

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that Beijing is seriously investigating the incident in Reed Bank but called the event “an ordinary maritime traffic accident.”

“The relevant reports are true, regardless of the country from which the perpetrator came from, their behavior should be condemned,” Shuang said.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana condemned China’s action after finding out that the vessel abandoned 22 Filipinos after sinking their ship.

However, the Defense Department is now verifying that if it’ really a Chinese vessel or a Vietnamese vessel.

Malacanang said it will not hesitate to cut ‘diplomatic ties’ should diplomatic protests fail to address this issue.
