Abu Dhabi’s International Astronomical Centre (IAC) forecasts that Eid Al Adha will be on Sunday, August 11, marking the season of Haj.
IAC Director Engr. Mohammed Shawkat said that the sighting of the new moon of the lunar month of Zul Hijjah, otherwise known as the Helal, won’t have any disputes between Islamic and Arab centres.
“Most Arab and Islamic centres will be able to easily and clearly see the new moon of Zul Hijjah by naked eyes and telescopes,” he said, as per a report from Khaleej Times.
Saudi Arabia announces the sighting of the Helal that most countries approve of every year. The sighting is linked to the season of pilgrimage for the Muslim community, also known as ‘Haj’.
“The first day of the month of Zul Hijjah is predicted to fall on Friday, August 2, and Eid Al Adha will be on Sunday, August 11,” said Arab Union for Space and Astronomy Sciences (Auas) member Ibrahim Al Jarwan.
The Arafat (Haj) day is expected to fall on Saturday, August 10 – which is also a holiday. This will then be followed by a 3-day holiday from August 11-13 (Sunday-Tuesday) for Eid Al Adha for both the public and private sectors, once officially announced.
