OFW jumps off building in Dubai to escape from agency

An overseas Filipina worker (OFW) jumped from the third floor of a building in Dubai after being duped by her recruitment agency.

According to the unnamed OFW, she arrived in Dubai in December 2018 after the recruitment agency promised her a job as a domestic helper in the Gulf state, reported GMA News.

Upon arrival at the airport, a representative from the agency brought her to the agency’s office where she was told that an employer would pick her up. However, no one arrived after a week.

The OFW was also locked inside the office and was not allowed to use a cellphone. She was also given insufficient food supply.

The OFW survived the fall and was later on found by a fellow Filipina who brought her to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Dubai.

The OFW also sought for help in retrieving her travel documents from her recruitment agency.

The case is still under investigation.
