Amazon’s souq.com, the largest e-commerce platform in the Middle East, has opened a new facility in Dubai, which is expected create more than 600 new jobs for its operations.
In a statement, Souq’s management said that the new facility centers will give jobs to over 600 people who will be needed in its first year of operations.
The 23,000-square-metre fulfilment centre will provide the buyers a wider range of choices for their shopping needs. Their orders will also be delivered faster than before.
“The increased fulfillment capacity also benefits our sellers, who comprise of thousands of small and medium sized businesses, by enabling them to scale up their businesses on our marketplace,” said Souq co-founder and CEO Ronaldo Mouchawar.
The facility is the company’s response to the growing needs of their growing market in the Middle East region.
“With the launch of our new fulfilment centre in Dubai, we take a significant step forward on this journey by providing a much larger selection, delivered quicker to our customers,” said Prashant Saran, director of Customer Fulfilment Middle East.
Through the e-commerce platform, UAE residents can choose from a wide array of Amazon-sold products such as clothing and fashion products, electronics, home and kitchenware, beauty and hygiene products, baby products, among many others.
In 2017, Amazon purchased Souq.com as way to expand the former’s market in the Middle East region.
